Exat to form PPPs for B20bn airport expressway project

The Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) will start forming public-private partnerships (PPPs) next year for the 20-billion-baht Srinakarin-Suvarnabhumi airport expressway project.
The new expressway is expected to open in 2030.
Exat deputy governor Katpachon Udomthampakdee recently presided over the third public hearing on the project.
He said Exat would gather all of the necessary information after it had received opinions from all sectors so it could draft the details of the project.
The drafting process is expected to take three to four months. After that, the project is expected to be finalised.
The budget earmarked for the project is 20.7 billion baht. It will cover expenses associated with construction, design, supervision and environmental factors.
The project’s net present value is 6.1 billion baht, and its economic internal rate of return is 14.35%, which means it is economically suitable. The standard EIRR is 12%.
The Srinakarin-Suvarnabhumi Airport expressway will run parallel to Inter-City Motorway No.7. The expressway’s northern section will form part of the 8.95-kilometre elevated section with four traffic lanes at the Srinakarin Interchange.
Both ends of the expressway will split and continue running along both sides of the inter-city motorway at an intersection on Rom Klao Road. The expressway will then be connected to a road leading to Suvarnabhumi airport.
The entry points and exits of the expressway will be located in three locations at Srinakarin Interchange, the road connected to Suvarnabhumi airport and a road near the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
Exat will apply both manual and electronic toll collection systems.
According to the agency, it will complete its study on the project’s feasibility within this year. After that, an environmental impact assessment report will be made.
